Creed Speaking

Purpose:

The FFA Creed outlines the organization’s beliefs regarding the industry of agriculture, FFA membership and the value of citizenship and patriotism. The Creed is recited by FFA members as part of the requirements to earn the Green-hand FFA Degree. The purpose of the Creed speaking leadership development event is to develop the public speaking abilities of 7th, 8th and 9th grade FFA members as well as develop their self-confidence and contribute to their advancement in the FFA degree program.

Rules:

Any first year FFA member in the ninth grade, in good standing, regularly enrolled in agriculture education is eligible.

Event Format:

The district representative will compete in the CDE at the State FFA Convention. The eligible contestants will draw for the order of speaking. The candidate’s ability to effectively answer an appropriate question posed by the judges of the CDE is considered in selecting a state winner. Each contestant shall begin the presentation by stating “The FFA Creed by E.M. Tiffany” and end with “…that inspiring task. Thank you.” The National FFA Creed Speaking score sheet will be used to evaluate this CDE. Up to three identical questions may be asked from the judges to each speaker with a five-minute time limit.

Tiebreakers:

Ties will be broken by national guidelines.
